Open Letter from Riverspace Board

An Open Letter…
Change is sweeping through America. Citizens are joining together to build and strengthen their communities. We at Riverspace are looking to do exactly that. This is our chance to change the future of downtown Nyack and the heart of Rockland County.

For the past two years we have provided diverse, exciting programming ranging from our unique conversations series, to weekly movies, to Jazz, and of course our very successful Milk and Cookies children’s series. However, ticket sales alone cannot sustain us and they cannot lead us to the future. We have a vision of the future, which would make the theater financially sustainable long term, while at the same time maximizing potential improvements to parking, safety, and the health of businesses in our community.

Imagine Tomorrow. Imagine a dramatic, state-of-the-art arts complex complete with a main theater, smaller performance, rehearsal, and educational spaces. Imagine an outdoor plaza in front, offering outdoor dining and a neighborhood square. Imagine a design that brings together the historic charm of Nyack with the future of a sustainable green building. The complex will be a home to arts and commercial space, with apartments and offices above a range of retail stores. This would be a huge boost to the local economy and restore what at one time were bustling streets of Nyack.

Our transformative vision would be a non-profit, for the benefit of the community and our patrons. This is a unique project, where the real estate development would fund the Arts Center, continuing its mission of “building community through the arts.”

This is truly a special opportunity for the citizens of Nyack and the surrounding towns and villages to make a REAL CHANGE in their community. This can happen. We are confident it can get built and succeed long term. Nyack’s historic and cultural charm provide the perfect landscape for such an innovative project and the active residents are the perfect audience to create and maintain this vision.

Public support is needed for this project to succeed and we hope that you will join and make Riverspace your choice for the future. We have a brief window of time to make history, let’s begin today.
