Nyack Flood Relief Is Just a Form Away (Maybe)

SBA Applications for Disaster Relief due By 7/28 (revised)

Nyack, July 20 — Rockland County wants to help homeowners and small business owners who suffered damage during the downpour and flash flood on Thurs June 23. But first, you have to help them. And time is running out.

Nyack Mayor Richard Kavesh says Rockland County needs a minimum of 25 applications to qualify. But so far, they have only received two.

Rockland County’s Office of Fire and Emergency Services has asked the NYS Office of Emergency Management to investigate the feasibility of a Small Business Administration Declaration for the county. “Successfully securing the declaration could provide for low interest loans to those who have suffered a greater than 40 percent uninsured loss,” says Christopher Jensen, Program Coordinator for the county’s Office of Fire & Emergency Services. Both individual residents and businesses can apply.

Businesses and property owners that suffered uninsured losses equal to 40 percent or more of the estimated fair market replacement value must complete and submit an application to the county’s Office of Fire and Emergency Services by Thursday, July 28.

You can get a copy of the required forms online at Nyack-Ny.gov or in person at Village Hall. If you need help (warning: this is about as much fun as filing out a 1040 form), you can contact the SBA 800-659-2955 (or email DisasterCustomerService@sba.gov).
