Muni-Meters Are Free After 4p

by Dave Zornow

Nyack, Sept 16 — When it comes to Hitchcock’s Psycho, Kris Burns has seen this movie before. But this time she hopes that the only shower scene will be on the silver screen and not on the streets of Nyack. Twice before this summer, Burns’ final Hopper Happens event — an outdoor showing of Psycho — was rained out. She’s hoping that “third times’ the charm” for the 7:30p projection on the side of the Verizon Building in downtown Nyack.

You won’t need a raincoat for Friday night, but you might need a blanket. Weather Underground says there is no chance of rain. However, the temperature may drop to 50 degrees.

And one of Nyack’s scariest creations — the dreaded muni meter — will be taking the night off. That means free parking in the village from 4p Friday until 11a Saturday.

Movie goers are invited to bring their lawn chairs, their cars or both to Nyack’s MUNICIPAL PARKING LOT (between Main St. and Church St.) for the outdoor screening. There won’t be any tiny speakers to hang on your car window, but you will be able to tune in the audio at 102.5 FM. The first eight rows of the parking lot will be reserved for lawn chairs with two big bad speakers providing the sound for car-less Psycho-nauts.

If you are old enough to remember going to the drive-in, there’s even a throwback special you’ll enjoy. “There will be a $5 Drive-in special  of popcorn, water AND candy, served to you by one of a dozen derby gals on roller skates,” says Burns.

Visitors driving to Nyack for the show are advised to look for parking on side streets like Frankiln., High Ave, Bridge, Park  and Burd Streets as the municipal lot will be closed from 4p-11p to accomodate the screening. The Spear Street parking will also be available for parking.
