Here’s a run down of what to do and where to do it this weekend.
Friday
It’s a First Friday of arts, music and entertainment in Nyack from 5-9p. Stefan Waldman and the Good Vibrations Players open the evening with live tunes and drumming (Main Street gazebo at Cedar St). At 7p, come to the Hopper House to hear artist Wendell Minor discuss his picture book, Edward Hopper Paints His World, a biography that introduces Nyack’s native son and world renown realist painter to the next generation. And all are invited to the Dia de los Muertos themed group show at Casa del Sol (104 Main St) from 8-10p. First Friday is presented by the Nyack Art Collective.- Toronto singer-songwriter Jennifer Castle plays the Upstairs Lounge at Prohibition River from 9-12m No cover, 82 Main St, Nyack.
- Guitar Magic celebrates the music of Paul Simon featuring guitarists Todd Nelson and Vic Juris and ArtsRock series curator Jeff Doctorow. Tickets: Advance $20, Student $15. At the door, $25. 8p. The Nyack Library, 59 S. Broadway.
- Children’s Shakespeare Theatre presents All’s Well That Ends Well. Enjoy the laughs as the company kicks off their 16th season with this delightful and entertaining play. 7 – 9:30p Fri & Sat. at the Palisades Presbyterian Church, 117 Washington Spring Rd, Palisades.
Saturday
- “You better think twice — before raking leaves off your lawn.” Buffalo Springfield fans and environmentally friendly neighbors are all welcome to join Nyack Mayor Jen Laird White and Village Board Trustee Marie Lorenzini on Sat morning at 11a for a Love ‘Em and Leave ‘Em leaf mulching demonstration on the upper lawn at Memorial Park in Nyack. Come out, have some cider, and learn how to keep leaves where they do the most good while saving time and money.
- Rivertown Film presents a “Pecha Kucha“ benefit. The Japanese term for “chit-chat,” Pecha Kucha was originally conceived as a setting where creative people could meet, show their work and exchange ideas. Artists from various disciplines will reveal what inspires them in a rapid fire format via 10 slides with 20 seconds of commentary per slide. Artists scheduled to appear are photographer Spencer Tunick, drummer Glen Schloss, visual artist Natasha Rabin, photographer Sean Jones, singer Lisa Sokolov, singer Josh Page, Flamenco dancer Anna de la Paz, choreographer Heather Cornell, author David Means, filmmaker Charles Conyers, illustrator Minh Uong, glassworker David Sugar, filmmaker Stan Warnow and choreographer Gabrielle Lansner. Tickets are $40, and includes complimentary hors d’oeuvres. 8p at The Nyack Center, Broadway and Depew.
- Union Arts Center presents Finn & the Sharks: A Rockabilly Dance Party. As a critical part of the neo-rockabilly surge in the early 80’s, this band is sure to provide a high energy performance and dance party. Advance ticket prices are $20 in advance, $25 at the door with discounts for students and seniors. 7:30p, Union Arts Center. 2 Union Ave, Sparkill.
- The Nyack Saturday Farmer’s Market features local farmers, florists, food and craft artisans. Moshi Moshi entertains with a variety of pop and jazz covers. 10a-12n. The market runs from 8a-1p, Main Street parking lot.
- Carnegie Concert Series presents acclaimed pianist Mei-Ting Sun performing pieces by Chopin, Schumann, Schubert, Debussy. 7:30p at The Nyack Library, 59 S. Broadway.

Enjoy some trick hoops wizardry and support the Upper Nyack Elementary School PTA! The famous Harlem Wizards basketball team takes on a team of Nyack all-stars, including Nyack schools Superintendent James Montesano, Grace Church Rector Owen Thompson, Upper Nyack Principal Anne Roberts, Rivertown Music’s Chris Yates, Strawberry Place’s Vinnie Cuccia, and more! It’s comedic basketball at its best and loads of fun for the whole family! Tickets: $15. Space is limited so purchase tickets here! 1p. The Bowman Gym at Nyack College, 1 South Boulevard.

Berta and Elmer Hader: A Lifetime of Art, an exhibit from The Historical Society of the Nyacks featuring the work of Grandview authors and illustrators of childrens’ books. On display through November at the Nyack Library, 59 S. Broadway.

World class performer, singer and entertainer Salvatore Chiarelli performs classical, traditional and popular Italian/Neapolitan songs, Italian/American love ballads, Italian opera, musical theater, film sound tracks as part of the Valley Cottage Library Sunday Concert series. 2p, 110 New York 303, Valley Cottage.

“My daddy works for Walt Disney!” was a great mixer line in the early 60s at the bus stop and kids’ birthday parties,” says Grey Johnson, the son of Disney legend Jimmy Johnson. His dad wrote Inside the Whimsy Works: My Life With Walt Disney Productions. “After that one truth, I could make up whatever lies I wanted and they would believe me!” Johnson speaks at the Nyack Library on Wed Nov 12 at 7p in the Community Room about the wonderful world of Disney and some of the truths and authenticity behind this ubiquitous media empire. Hometown Rock ‘n Roll sensation Regret The Hour is competing in “Get Out Of The Garage” for a chance to perform on late night TV on ABC. Lead guitarist Nate McCarthy says they could use a little help from their friends. “Our band is in the running to play on Jimmy Kimmel Live through a contest with Converse Rubber Tracks, the studio where we’ve been writing and recording our new album.” McCarthy says the winning band will be selected based on their total social media score. “It would be very much appreciated if you could take a moment to click through the videos and/or share our link on Facebook and other social media,” says McCarthy. “We get points for every share and view, so the more the better!”
