Sustainability Tonight: At Nyack Village Hall

Nyack, Feb 12 — The village’s 2015-2016 Sustainable Action Plan will be presented to the public tonight at 6:30p at Nyack Village Hall. Village officials, staff, and community members have developed the plan over the past year which sets out actions for careful and informed stewardship of local economic, social and environmental resources.

The Action Plan is a roadmap for key steps for creating a community that is sustainable—one that balances interdependent economic, social and environmental needs in a lasting way, and resilient—prepared for and adaptable to the impacts of climate change. The public is invited to attend the Village Board Workshop meeting where the plan will be presented. Nyack Village Hall is located at 9 North Broadway.

Marcy Denker, Nyack Green Desk 201402The plan was created by the village’s “Green Desk” committee, lead by landscape architect and resident Marcy Denker. “Clean air. Renewable energy. Greenhouse gas reduction. Low Impact Development. Green buildings. Water quality. Biodiversity. We want all this, and many of us take steps to shore up and advance the path towards these goals each day,” says Denker. “But with so much to do and so little time we want more to be done, to see more results and even want to do more ourselves, but we’re not sure where to put the effort.” Denker says her committee is looking for volunteers to help reach these goals.
