Nyack Weekender: Oct 16-18

Three plays (one of which is in three acts), a wine tasting, opera, folk, Oktoberfest, a Cropsey Farm tour and a pudit’s preview of the the 2016 presidential campaign. Here’s your Fri-Sun rundown of what to do and where to do it.

Friday

  • Alfred Hitchcock Presents three one act plays from the master of macabre, murder and mystery. 8p at Nyack Village Theatre, 94 Main St.
  • Holiday Wine Tasting with Heidi Normand-Berge of Grape d’Vine. Enjoy live jazz while learning about holiday wine pairings from distributors of leading vineyards to benefit the Palisades, Blauvelt, Orangeburg, and Tappan Libraries. . 5p at Union Arts Center, 2 Union St, Sparkill.
  • UAC-Kostabeat-Glint-Flyer-420x544Union Arts Center presents a rare live collaboration between legendary musical artists Kostabeat and Glint, This evening includes two bands, an art auction, wine and cake! $20 in advance, $25 at the door.   • Spring Valley NAACP’s Annual Freedom Fund Membership Gala honors Nyack News and View’s own artist-in-residence, Bill Batson. Other honorees include Francis Brooke, Tyrone McNeil, Luis Nivelo, Andrew Mandel, Rev. Dr. Weldon McWilliams IV, Volunteer Counseling Service and Nicole Matthews, Esq. 6:30p at Colonial Inn, 545 Tappan Road, Norwood, NJ.   • An art caper gone awry in Priceless. on stage ar Penguin Repertory Theater. Fri & Sat at 8p, Sun at 2p,  7 Crickettown Rd, Stony Point.
  • The classic farce comedy, Boeing Boeing, is on stage at Antrim Playhouse. Fri & Sat at 8p, Sun at 2p, 15 Spook Rock Road, Suffern.

SaturdayHarvest

  • Find fun for the whole family at Cropsey Farm Harvest Festival! On the grounds of the old Cropsey Farm enjoy food, children’s activities, music, beer, hay rides and more. $8 pp and $3 for children over five. 12p at Cropsey Community Farm, 220 South Little Tor Rd.
  • ArtsRock presents One Year and Counting, an Evening of Presidential Politics featuring well-known political commentators Nancy Giles, Hendrik Hertzberg, John Hockenberry and Francis Wilkinson. Tickets are $20. Student tickets are $10. More info at ArtsRock.org. 8p at The Nyack Center Nyack, 58 Depew Ave.
  • The Hudson Lyric Opera presents Englebert Humperdinck’s Hansel & Gretel performed in English with full orchestra. Sat at 7:30p, Sun at 2p at Trinity United Methodist Church, 47 East Main St., Stony Point.
  • Everyone’s invited to Bear Mountain for the 2015 Oktoberfest where families can partake in German food and beer, entertainment, craft vendors and much more. Oktoberfest takes place every weekend through October. 12-6p, Anthony Wayne Recreation Area, Palisades Interstate Parkway, Bear Mountain.

Sunday

  • A Program of Music, Literature, and Prayerful Reflection led by Sherry Sylar, Oboist at the NY fallPhilharmonic, and James Renskink, Organist/Music Director. 10:30 – 11:30, First Reformed Church of Nyack, 18 S Broadway, Nyack.
  • The Historical Society of Rockland County invites you to their Fall Family Festival. Enjoy the historic Traphagen and Vanderbilt/Budke Houses and don’t miss the pumpkin picking and decorating. For the kids, check out the petting zoo and pony rides as well as games, crafts and mini golf! Live music, raffles, food and more! 12-5p at Germonds Park, Bardonia.
  • As part of the Young Performers Series, classical pianist Michael Noble performs works of Mozart, Rachmaninoff and Ravel. 1:30p at Valley Cottage Library, 110 NY-303, Valley Cottage.
  • The Historical Society of the Nyacks’ Fall exhibition features the photographs of the construction of the original Tappan Zee Bridge taken between 1952 – 1955 by Leonard Cooke of Nyack. Exhibit runs every Sunday through Nov 29. 1p at 50 Piermont Ave, Nyack.
  • Phil Ochs Song Night commemorates his life and music while highlighting new talents. Join Borderline Folk Music and performers Magpie, Fred Gillen Jr., Betty and the Baby Boomers, Colleen Kattau and Mara Levine. 1p at Nanuet Public Library, 149 Church St, Nanuet.

Monday

The Village of Nyack invites you to attend a Public Workshop to discuss the Comprehensive Plan to build on prior planning efforts and establish a policy guide for future land use decisions in the village. The workshop covers village-wide concerns such as: Zoning, Transportation, and Economic Development. 7p at Nyack Center, 58 Depew Ave.

Tuesday

The Book And Pub Club, a book club geared toward 21 to 30-somethings, meets up to discuss The Sisters Brothers by Patrick deWitt. 7p at Spice of India, 91 Main St, Nyack.

Thursday

Take part in Growing Up In Rockland: A Golden Anniversary Lecture by Brian Jennings, the history librarian at the New City library. This oral history project strives to collect and preserve the stories of Rockland County’s senior citizens. 7:15p at HSRC Community Room, 20 Zukor Rd, New City.
