It’s April and inside the Nyack Library, it’s raining great programs! No matter what your preference, there’s bound to be something of interest. If you haven’t stopped by in a while, April is the month to visit.
For the gardeners out there, the Seed Exchange Open Hours continue on Saturdays all month from 10a until 2p and on Thursday, April 28at 7p Vivienne Dieckmann, Master Gardener with Cornell University Cooperative Extension of Rockland, presents Crops in Pots: Growing Vegetables in Containers. Registration is required.
In honor of National Poetry Month, we will hold our 2nd annual Poetry Read-Out on Wednesday, April 20 from 5p until 8p. Come read your favorite poetry or just sit back and listen to some poetry. If you would like to write poetry for the Read-Out, the monthly Poets Circle will meet on Monday, April 18 at 6:30p. Registration is required.
If the arts are more your cup of tea, on Saturday, April 9 at 3:30p, join us for Hopper House Artist Conversations, a panel discussion with the artists featured in the Hopper House exhibition Where We Are Standing: Contemporary Women Artists from Iran (on view through April 24 at the Edward Hopper House Art Center) moderated by Clare Davies, Assistant Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, Middle East, North Africa, and Turkey, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Program is free for Edward Hopper House members and those who attend the exhibition at Hopper House; $7 for all others. Registration is required. On Sunday, April 17 at 2p our Carnegie Concert Series will feature the Rockland Camerata performing works by Brahms and other composers. There is a $10 suggested donation to benefit the Carnegie Concert Series. Registration is required.
For thought provoking discussions, on Thursday, April 7 at 7pm join us for This House Matters: A Documentary and Discussion On Historic Preservation, a story of a handful of historic houses in Rockland County, New York. While we cannot save every building, some are worth fighting for. Donations will be accepted for the John Green House Preservation Coalition. Registration is required. On Thursday, April 14 at 7p, we present Food for Thought: Nature’s New Deal, a discussion of the great depression and Franklin Roosevelt in New York’s Hudson Valley. Registration is required.
Teens are not forgotten. Today, April 4 and Tomorrow, April 5 at 5:30p, we feature Teen Babysitting Workshops. You must attend both sessions to receive a certificate. There is a $5 materials fee. Please sign up in the Teen Room. Trevor Hochman prepares you for those college entrance exams with SAT and ACT Math: Skills, Drills and Strategy on Tuesday, April 5 at 7p and SAT and ACT Reading Passage: Skills, Drills and Strategy on Tuesday, April 26 at 7p.
