If you need a break from the opening weekend of football this afternoon, consider taking a stroll through the Nyack Street Fair. There will be the usual food vendors, meaning whatever you want is available fried. Cloudy skies are predicted, with a 60 percent chance of rain. Hours are 10a-5p.
The 30th annual Nyack Chamber of Commerce September Street Fair will honor the memory of all who perished on 9/11 and celebrates the heroism of all Sept 11 responders — especially those from the local community who gave their lives in the effort to save the lives of others. There will be a 10a ceremony that celebrates the courage and sacrifices of all first responders and victims — with special honors to Nyack residents Jon Albert, Stacey Sennas McGowan, Harry Wanamaker and Welles Remy Crowther, the “man in the red bandana.” Red bandanas will be worn by many of the vendors and fair participants, and The Welles Remy Crowther Charitable Trust will be represented among the booths at the fair.
Sunday’s Street Fair will feature performances by the Amazing Grace Circus! (AGC!) Teen Troupe. “This is a special occasion for our AGC! teens,” said Carlo Pellegrini, co-founder with Janet Hayes of Amazing Grace CIRCUS! After September 11 2001, the two co-founders worked with teens at Grace Episcopal Church in Nyack to help them understand what happened that day. “By March 2002, the teens had decided to put on a circus to send a message of hope to our community. A one-time fundraising event for 9/11 victims turned into a 14-year, year-round adventure — the Amazing Grace Circus.”
AGC! will conduct its famous Circus Family Fun Day in Sunday, performing and teaching a broad array of circus skills at the top of Nyack Memorial Park (corner of Depew & Piermont Aves). Proceeds from the sale of popcorn, cotton candy, circus toys and t-shirts will go to a local 9/11 fund for the children of families affected by the events of that day.

- The Village of Nyack holds its its annual 9/11 Celebration of Hometown Heroes at 6:30p, Memorial Park.
- Embark on a Hudson River Birding Ramble as experts lead a walk through diverse bird habitats in search of neo-tropical birds on their fall migration. 8a at Stony Point Battlefield State Historic Site, 44 Battlefield Rd.
