The leaves are down, fall festivals are in full swing and Halloween is right around the corner. Don’t fear the Field of Screamz, the Halloween Spooktacular or the Goblin Parade. Enjoy the fall hues on a Nature & Photography Walk or take a peek into the past at the Historical Society’s Fall Fest. Friday
- The Pink Monkey Magazine celebrates the release of its second issue with live music, dramatic readings, foodstuffs and very refined drinks. 7 – 10p at The Kiam Records Shop (95 Main St.) and Festoon on Hudson (95 1/2 Main St.).
- Enjoy classic whodunits with Alfred Hitchcock Presents 2 One Acts where macabre murder mysteries are performed live on stage. Fri & Sat at 8-10p at the Nyack Village Theatre, 94 Main St, Nyack.
- The Benny Benack III Quartet performs jazz at 8 & 9:30p at Maureen’s Jazz Cellar, 2 N Broadway, Nyack.
- Antrim Playhouse presents the 1940s murder mystery musical A Shot in the Dark. Fri & Sat at 8p, Sun at 2p. Antrim Playhouse, 15 Spook Rock Rd, Wesley Hills.
- Check out Sculpture in the Garden, featuring the work of James Tyler and Santi-Hitorangi. Exhibit on display Wed – Sun, 12 -5p, through Oct 23. Edward Hopper House, 82 N Broadway, Nyack.
Saturday
Lace up your hiking shoes for a 3-mile guided Nature & Photography Walk. Bring along a camera, water and snacks. 9 – 11:30a at Dater Mountain Nature Park, Johnsontown Rd, Sloatsburg.
- Join the Keep Rockland Beautiful crew and clean up along the entrance of Rockland Lake. Meet at 10a at the Congers Train Station for supply pickup, Congers Rd and Burnside Ave, Congers.
- The Town of Clarkstown hosts the Goblin Parade with hayrides, a costume contest for up to 10 year olds, a bouncy house and vendors. 11a – 3p at Congers Lake Memorial Park, 6 Gilchrest Rd, Congers.
- Check out the Halloween Spooktacular with pumpkin decorating, face painting, games, a bouncy house, maze and trick or treat bags with snacks and prizes. Noon – 3p at Orchard St, across from the Nanuet Post Office.
- Master storyteller, author and activist Onawumi Jean Moss will perform her one-woman show Seriously… What Did You Call Me? at 7p at The Nyack Center, Depew & S Broadway, Nyack.
Rockland Boulders presents Field of Screamz, the scariest haunted house in the Hudson Valley. 7 – 8p at Palisades Credit Union Park, 1 Provident Bank Park Dr, Pomona.
- Jazz pianists Dick Hyman and Bill Charlap perform Dueling Pianos, a specially arranged 2 piano version of George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. 8p at Rockland Community College, 145 College Rd, Suffern.
- Sweet Georgia Brown, an inductee of the Blues Hall of Fame, performs R&B and Blues at 8:30p at Sixty 5 On Main, Nyack.
- It’s a little bit of Germany right here in Rockland County. 2016 Oktoberfest serves up German food and beer, entertainment and craft vendors. Sat & Sun from 12:30 – 5p, Anthony Wayne Recreation Area, Palisades Interstate Parkway, Bear Mountain.
- Experience a political time capsule in Rockland Votes! A Look at Presidential Elections, 1854–1968. Wed through Fri and Sun, 12-4p through Nov 6. The Historical Society of Rockland County, 20 Zukor Rd, New City.
- The Historical Society of Nyack hosts Van Houten’s Landing Historic Neighborhood exhibit. Weekly on Sat from 1-4p at 50 Piermont Ave, Nyack.
Sunday
Relive the past at the Historical Society of Rockland County’s Fall Family Festival. Hop on a horse-drawn hayride, decorate a pumpkin and participate in children’s games and crafts like stencil art and quill pen writing. Workshops throughout the day include lace making, pen turning and woodworking plus Revolutionary War Camp Life reenactments, guided nature walks and storytelling. Noon – 4p at Germonds Park, 131 Germonds Rd, West Nyack.
- Children and families are invited to Fall Back into Camp. Decorate a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch, jump on the whacky fun house and try your hand at football, tennis, boating, archery and gaga. 1 – 3p at Deer Mountain Day Camp, 63 Call Hollow Rd, Pomona.
- A crush can make anyone feel young again—even a widower named Ralph. The Last Romance is a a heart-warming drama/comedy about the transformative power of love staged by M&M Productions. 6p at Nyack Library,
- Check out Paintings by Fred Cohen Exhibit Opening Reception. Noon – 4p at Union Arts Center, 2 Union St, Sparkill.
