Rivertown Film Makes 7 Murder Mysteries Come Alive

by Patricia Schneider

The setting is a hotel in Nyack, NY where a party for movie mystery buffs is underway. Coincidentally, seven crimes have been committed in different rooms in the hotel. In the lobby, a popular local band plays. Hotel guests shuffle from room to room gathering clues trying to solve the mysteries. Guests nervously eye each other, playing it close to the vest. They know that someone At the party will solve all seven mysteries. And end up…
…winning a prize.

It would be a crime to miss this special event.

Rivertown Film creates an immersive theater experience at the West Gate Inn Nyack on Friday May 12 at 8p. It will be a fun-filled cinematic evening that features drama, live actors, costumes, good eats and great music.
West Gate Inn Nyack will dedicate seven rooms to serve as the setting for seven iconic murder mystery films. Actors will re-enact scenes from these movies, and guests will have the opportunity to wander from room to room as they desire, using a program booklet as their “guide.” Attendees will have the opportunity to guess the origin of the film scenes and win a prize.

What is Immersive Theatre?

Stimulating all five of the senses, Immersive Theatre transforms the physical space it’s presented in and it creates a uniquely personal experience for the audience.
At Murder, Mayhem and the Movies, you can move from room to room — or linger to see the scene played over and over — to pick up clues that other guest detectives may have missed.

The idea for an immersive benefit was born out of the current popularity of this particular form of theater. Guests are welcome to come dressed as their favorite suspense thriller characters.

Movies…and Music, too

In addition to viewing vignettes, attendees can head to the ballroom enjoy live music courtesy of Sam Waymon, Adam Falcon, Phyllis Kee, Barbara Cepeda, State of Mind, Ted Zobel and Dan Cohen, the event’s MC.
All of the sleuthing is sure to make people hungry. Luckily, great food is being provided by Hudson House, Turiello’s, Patisserie Didier Dumas, O’Donoghue’s Tavern, El Cunao, Velo and La Fontana.  There’s a cash bar as well.
Tickets for Rivertown Film’s Spring Fundraiser, Murder, Mayhem and the Movies, are $75 in before May 12 and $80 after that. Order online at Rivertownfilm.org or call (800) 838-3006. The West Gate Inn Nyack is located at 26 Route 59.

Patricia Schneider is the Publicist for Rivertown Film and a member of the Board of Directors.
