The Villages: VB Results, TZB Lane Closures, TZ Vista Vote

This Week In The Villages: Election results, TZ Vista votes, TZ Bridge closures and Fall Rec Dept programs. There’s a historical hike around Rockland Lake and the NYS DEC lends out fishing equipment. Congresswoman Nita Lowey made two announcements pertaining to federal funding to assist victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.


Village of Nyack

Nyack Democratic Primary Election
Village Trustees Marie Lorenzini and Elijah Reichlin-Melnick won re-election to the Nyack Village Board in the Sept 12 Nyack Democratic Primary. They will be running unopposed in the Novemeber General Election as will Democratic Mayoral Candidate Don Hammond.
Recreation Department Fall 2017 Programs: A registration form and information about the Recreation Department’s Fall 2017 Programs, including skateboarding, teen aerial yoga, petite soccer, dramarama and wrestling is available at nyack-ny.gov.
Local Waterfront Revitalization Program (LWRP): The Village of Nyack has draft copies of the LWRP available for public review. They are available at the Village Clerk’s Office (9 North Broadway) and at the Nyack Library Adult Reference Desk (59 South Broadway). The Public Hearing for the Draft LWRP will be held on Thursday, Sept 28 at 7:30p at Village Hall (9 North Broadway). The Draft LWRP is also available on the village website (nyack-ny.gov).
Gedney St Project: On Sept 14, the Nyack Village Board voted in favor of approving a Special Permit for the Gedney Street Project (formerly known as TZ Vista) pending several conditions to which the builder has agreed. These include: a bond to guarantee completion of the public park; transferring ownership of the park to the Village of Nyack; minor modifications to the buildings’ appearance. A final vote on approving the Special Permit is set for the Sept 28 Village Board meeting. Former mayor Terry Hekker published a 50+ year history of Nyack’s downtown leading up to this project.

The tour will include historical facts and folklore as the group explores one of Clarkstown’s former hamlets including the ice house foundations and the old town of Rockland Lake. Pre-register at 845-639-6200. Bring water. Meet at Rockland Lake State Park North, Parking Lot #1.
National Hunting and Fishing Day at Congers Lake: Learn to fish, forage or trap, see a fly fishing or archery demonstration, make your own cane fishing pole and meet some hunting dogs on Sat Sept from 9a -3p at Congers Lake. Fishing Equipment will be available, courtesy of the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). 6 Gilchrest Road, off of Route 303, Congers.

Tappan Zee Bridge News

STRUCTURE REMOVAL IN ROCKLAND COUNTY BEGINS: Goodbye traffic zipper, we will miss you (but not so much). The old movable barrier on the legacy Tappan Zee Bridge will be removed from the median between the northbound and southbound lanes this week. Operations will require multiple overnight lane closures between Exit 9 (Tarrytown – Sleepy Hollow – US Route 9) and exit 11 (Nyack – South Nyack – US Route 9W) beginning Tues Sept 19. This include

“Today is about affirming our shared commitment to supporting and empowering survivors of violence and abuse,” said Congresswoman Lowey. “Every member of our community deserves protection from domestic abuse, sexual assault, and violence in any form. Lowey Announces $225,000 Federal Grant to Help Prevent Sexual Assault

“The federal funding announced today will support a critical initiative to address the urgent problem of sexual assault on college campuses,” said Congresswoman Lowey. “I am pleased that NIH is providing federal support to innovative New York businesses, and I will continue to advocate for more of these funds in Congress.” Source: Lowey.house.gov
