Nyack Weekender: Ghosts, Goblins and Social Responsibility

‘Twas the weekend before Halloween and all through the towns spooky and scary events could be found. Watch a film classic, go to the fourth best parade in the country, take a spooky guided hike or bring the little ghosts and goblins trunk or treating.  For those looking to do good or make their voices heard, march for climate change, adopt a furry four legged friend or listen what your local candidates have to say.

Friday

  • It may only be Halloween but it’s not too early to start your holiday shopping at an Antiques and Collectibles Sale. Lots of furniture, artwork, toys, fine crystal, ceramics, heirloom silver, tapestries, vintage clothing, jewelry and furs, oriental rugs, contemporary crafts and much more. Saturday

  • Five years ago, Superstorm Sandy took lives, destroyed homes, and flooded subways. New York’s elected officials must protect us from the impacts of climate change and lead a just transition to a renewable energy economy. Join other concerned citizens in a March for Climate Change. Assemble and march over the Brooklyn Bridge, and then rally at the Alfred E. Smith Houses in Manhattan. 11a, Cadman Plaza, Brooklyn.
  • Why travel all the way to NYC when the Travel Channel’s fourth best halloween parade in the nation is in your backyard? The Nyack Halloween Parade features dancing ghouls, marching bands, roller derby, wild costumes, crazy floats, fire trucks, motorcycles and classic cars. It kicks off from Memorial Park and winds it way to Main St for costume judging. 2p trick or treat trail in Main St Municipal Lot, 3p parade registration in Memorial Park, 5:30p parade kick off. Sunday

  • Don’t dismiss the 2017 elections. Hear what the candidates for County Executive, Town of Clarkstown Supervisor, Town of Orangetown Supervisor and Town of Ramapo Supervisor have to say at a Candidates’ Forum. 2p, JCC Rockland, 450 West Nyack Rd, West Nyack.
  • Take an extra special spooky Halloween Hike with Experience Nyack. Explore the mysterious abandoned tunnels in Camp Bluefields known for ghosts, demonic rituals and general spooky vibes. Bring a flashlight, snacks and water. 3p, Camp Bluefields, Blauvelt.
  • The Palisades Center Mall is calling all ghosts, gobilins, witches, devils and otherworldly creatures for a Trunk or Treat. 5p, Commuter Lot – Lot J, West Nyack.
  • The “Pitbull of Comedy”, Bobby Slayton, brings his intense style of stand-up comedy – a mixed style of complaining, insulting and personal story-telling to Levity Live. 7p, 4210 Palisades Center Dr, West Nyack
