Hertzberg Endorses Hogan

by Triny Hertzberg

A Village Board comprised of Jen Laird-White, Doug Foster, Louise Parker, Richard Kavesh (who retains his seat if not elected Mayor) led by Denise Hogan as Mayor would be a strong group with varied expertise, ready to make things happen. I had the opportunity to work closely with Denise Hogan for three months on the Citizen’s Committee formed by the Village Board to make recommendations about the development of the “superblock” in downtown Nyack. I was impressed by several qualities that I consistently saw in Denise:

She acted as the impartial liasion to the Village Board and as such helped the committee stay on task, which was to look at the “superblock” from the citizen’s point of view, working towards a plan that could be feasible, reflecting the desires of the whole community – homeowners, business owners and operators, renters, visitors and so on. She brought her broad knowledge of the community and governmental process to our weekly meetings.

As a lifelong resident, she understands the history and cyclical nature of Nyack’s ups and downs, so she is a realist, but is determined to move Village government to develop and pursue a vision which will realize Nyack’s potential as an even greater place to live and visit.

Her vision of Nyack and it’s citizens is inclusive and egalitarian.

She is intolerant of procrastination.

It’s not about her – it’s about the work that needs to get done.

She has a wonderful sense of humor and an easy way with people.

She has the time to do the job.

She will have my vote.  Please go to the polls and give her yours.  This is an important election.
