Earlier this month, the Friends of The Nyacks solicited questions from the public on their Web site for the candidates running for the Nyack Schools Board of Education. Responses from six of the eight candidates are now online.
If you have any comments, feel free to post them on NyackNewsAndViews.com
The Trustees/Budget election is Tuesday May 20th from 7:00a to 9:00p For information on where to vote, please visit the vote & budget information page hosted by the school district.
Thanks to Friends of The Nyacks for hosting this Q&A among the candidates. And thanks to all of the candidates and board members for their time and efforts volunteering to make our community a better place.

cliffweathers says:
After given the chance, after listening to a parent (me) advocate for children with special needs at Nyack High School on Monday, not one of these candidates bothered to mention special education as a critical priority going forward in their comments to Friends of the Nyacks—they had four days to consider this. That shows me that they either:
1.) just don’t get it.
2.) really don’t care.
3.) they don’t think espousing an idea without broad populist appeal is going to get them elected.
I guess I can’t expect much change by voting down the incumbents in favor of the challengers. Perhaps I was fooling myself that some new blood on the board would make a difference.
I just shake my head when I read their submissions that tout extra curricular activities and sports fields as top priorities, but again it’s just not a winning argument to champion children with disabilities. As I always say, “You’ve got to fix up your house before you have a party.”
Count me as one disappointed voter come Tuesday.
