Trashing the Recyclers

Miele Sanitation should be fired as the village’s recycling vendor. For at least the 50th time since I moved to Nyack three years ago, I just got off the phone with them because they will not pick up my paper recycling. I have called three times this week alone, and when I just said that I might get a ticket because my bin is out on the wrong day I was told “too bad”. They are unprofessional and unreliable and should be fired.

11/05/09 – It is fitting that the paper recycling bin is blue, because last night New York became one of the many blue states to usher in President-elect Barack Obama. Like the Illinois senator, my blue bin won’t give up the fight, no matter the odds. It wants to be picked up. It wants to be recycled. If it dreams hard enough, it will be. Someday. Not today. Probably not next week, or even this year. Maybe not even in President Obama’s first term. But, someday. Live the Dream.

To amuse myself (if no one else) I’m goin to start a public tally of how many times Miele doesn’t show up to pick up my paper recycling. (Bear in mind I am starting this after 3 1/2 years of this). If this goes on until I die, perhaps I’ll wind some kind of posthumous performance art award.

10/15/08 — It’s a beautiful autumn day. Birds are atwitter and everyone’s in a good mood. I am too, until I got home today to see my paper recycling sitting right where I left it last night. Its compadre, glass and plastic, have been removed.
