Worst Week Ever: Expect Delays on TZB After 8p

In Minneapolis, locals say there are only two seasons: Winter and Road Repair. TZB commuters are in for another week of the latter as deck panel replacement construction continues this week on the Tappan Zee Bridge.

Here’s a day by day summary of what to expect:

  • Sunday 10/19: Expect northbound traffic to Rockland around 9p. Southbound traffic into Westchester will take a hit beginning at 10p.   All lanes are expected to be open by 6a on Monday morning.
  • Mon-Sat (10/20-24): Traveling across the river one night this week? Be prepared to hurray up and wait as southbound bridge work commences at 8p followed by northbound construction at 9p. After Wednesday the northbound work doesn’t start until 10p. Which doesn’t mean there won’t be  rubbernecking on one side watching the lights, construction crews and action on the south side.

There are more specific details on the lanes closed and the days and times from the NYS Thruway Authority. You can also take a peek at the current traffic on the bridge from the five TZB traffic cams on the bridge updated every ten seconds by Thruway Authority cameras.

The Albany Times Herald reports the Thruway Authority is thinking about opening up a fifth lane East for the morning rush. That means there would only be two lanes going West during the AM commute.

Rockland County Exec Scott Vanderhoef has written to the Thruway Authority about the “unacceptable delays” during this intensive bridge repair period.
