GraceMusic’s 40th Season Opens Sat 10/10

Internationally acclaimed vocalists Anonymous 4 will sing ‘€œSecret Voices,’€ a new program of 13th-century polyphony & sacred song, to open GraceMusic’s 40th season on Sat Oct 10.

The internationally known a cappella quartet will perform Secret Voices: The Sisters of Las Huelgas featuring 13th-century polyphony and sacred Latin song from the Spanish Las Huelgas Codex. These works, collected for a convent of aristocratic women, defied rules that forbade them from singing polyphony — the most beautiful and demanding music in Europe at that time. Hear the recordings that topped Billboard’s classical chart this Saturday October 10 at 7:30p at Grace Church in Nyack, 130 First Avenue.

Admission is $20 and child care is available. A meet the artists reception follows the concert.

With the 2009-20010 season GraceMusic marks its 40th year. Past concerts have included the contemporary ‘€œdowntown’€ string quartet Ethel, cellists David Geber and Julia Lichten, British organist David Briggs, the Princeton Singers, and the percussion ensemble Talujon. GraceMusic began in 1969 with its first Messiah Sing, a holiday tradition and the only Messiah Sing in Rockland County, where professional singers perform the arias of Handel’s classic and an audience of amateurs sing out in the magnificent choruses, especially the rousing Hallelujah.  This year, the Messiah Sing is scheduled for December 6 at 4p.
