Kavesh Wins Nyack Primary

Sept 17, 4:25p: Richard Kavesh has won the Democratic primary for Mayor of Nyack. Updated vote counts from the Rockland County Board of Elections give him a 53 vote lead over Marie Lorenzini. Although 15 absentee ballots won’t be opened until next week, he is guaranteed to finish with more votes than his three competitors. Kavesh finished Tuesday night ahead by only eight votes, but the Board Of Elections has discovered and corrected a typo which incorrectly gave 100 votes to another candidate.

Here are new vote totals updated by the Rockland County Board of Elections on 9/17:

Votes
Percent
Kavesh 286 37%
Lorenzini 233 30%
Hogan 178 23%
Olive 84 11%
Total 781 100%

Although the general election is often anti-climatic in the 75% Democratic Village of Nyack, voters will have reasons to turnout this year. Denise Hogan will still be on the ballot representing the Independence and Preserve Nyack tickets on November 3. She still has a chance of pulling a come-from-behind victory if she can convince enough former Olive and Lorenzini and supporters as well as Republicans and Independents to pull the lever for her in the general election.
