Mayoral Candidate Marie Lorenzini

Nyack Needs a Full-Time Leader
Who Has the Capacity to Get Things Done

MarieLorenziniAs a Trustee and community activist for a number of years, I have acquired a unique perspective of the needs of the reseidents and stakeholders of the Village of Nyack. My three opponents for this important post have each made very interesting proposals for what they would do if elected. On every issue mentioned in their position pieces they refer to items of concern to residents including Streetscape,  the future of Riverspace,  maintenance and improvement of sidewalks, The Big Dig , Memorial Park  the Marina, parking issues, environmental concerns and economic development .  But if you read the words of these three well-intentioned individuals, only general approaches filled with optimism are mentioned. None of these candidates for mayor have offered plans as to specifically how they would do the good things they propose.  I have been the only village official in this critically important race able to demonstrate a record of finding solutions to very specific issues concerning the residents of the village.  Some examples:

  • I actively secured an $8,000 grant, through Rockland Riverfront Communities Council that enabled the Village of Nyack to reduce its financial obligations in completing the Comprehensive Master Plan.
  • When the 2009 village budget slashed the annual Fourth of July Fireworks, I took a leadership role and met with the CEO/ President of Provident Bank, and secured a two-year $ 20,000 commitment to fund this patriotic community event.
  • I was the Village of Nyack’s representative on the Rockland Economic Development Corporation’s Steering Committee, and  working with the Chairperson of the Rockland County Legislature, the Supervisor of the Town of Orangetown and other key officials later issued the crucial “Tappan Zee Corridor Transit-Oriented Development Study.”
  • As a Trustee I voted consistently to provide funding support for the Nyack Center and its programs

Over the years I have consistently raised concerns regarding the scope and ultimate financing of the current Riverspace concept for the Village of Nyack. These concerns have been supported by Riverspace officials who recently suspended programs.

The solution to the other issues raised by my fellow candidates will require the skills of a Mayor who has administrative savvy and the ability to get things done.  As a graduate of the prestigious “Leadership Rockland” Program, I have been very successful in my role as Trustee to utilize many of the special intergovernmental skills I acquired in this unique program.

I believe Nyack would benefit from my administrative skills and community perspective. I am committed to providing the village with the full-time attention it needs to solve a multiplicity of issues.   As an elected official in the Village of Nyack, I have a record of tirelessly working with village personnel, local officials and residents to ensure the Village is managed efficiently and responsibly.  In the future months, the village faces many complex fiscal and quality of life issues.

As a result, the Village of Nyack clearly needs a full-time Mayor. Again, I am fully committed to devoting all my energy and skills as a “full-time” Mayor.   I am the only Mayoral candidate willing to make this commitment.
