Dear Nyack Neighbor:

I’m writing to ask you to vote for the Democratic ticket of Richard Kavesh for Mayor of Nyack and Doug Foster and Jen White as Nyack Village Trustees on Election Day, November 3rd. I believe that village government is the most important level of government because it has the most direct impact on our lives. Here are a few of my accomplishments that our Democratic team will build on:
- I led Nyack’s successful efforts to obtain federal funds for building the bathrooms in Memorial Park, sidewalks on Waldron Avenue, and improving drainage on South Broadway.
- I initiated and sponsored Nyack’s innovative law requiring more affordable housing.
- I championed the efforts to add more than 100 parking spaces to our downtown.
- Constituent service – the most gratifying part of my job is to help people with the problems that affect their daily lives. No problem is too big or too small for me – I’ll help you.
If elected, here are a few of the issues I’ll work on with you and for you:
- We need to improve the appearance and operation of our village; let’s develop a long-term capital improvement plan for our sidewalks, roads, sewers, water system, lighting, and parks.
- Fiscal responsibility – I voted against the village’s recent 9.4% tax increase and promise to spend every dollar of your money as if it were my own; let’s implement zero-based budgeting.
- Let’s continue to support programs for our youth and senior citizens.
- Let’s carefully examine all the costs and benefits of the Riverspace proposal.
- Eco-friendly, “green” building codes.
- Transparent, and responsive government – let’s put our meetings on-line and improve our website.
The Mayor of Nyack needs to be equal parts listener, team builder, manager, and problem-solver. I believe that I’ve demonstrated these qualities during my 20+ years as a business leader and my 8 years as your Trustee. Doug Foster, Jen White, and I are committed to making the village we all love an even more wonderful place to live, work, visit, and raise a family. Let’s renew Nyack together.
Sincerely,
Richard Kavesh
