In terms of long-range impact and importance, it would be hard to top the approval of the new zoning code and the approval of the new plan for Memorial Park, both done at the last VB meeting of 2009.

John Milton wrote: "they also serve who only stand and wait," so the rest of us will just have to stand (or sit) and wait until tomorrow to find out if the stories readers ranked 1 - 10 by "popular demand" actually were/are the most important stories of the year. Of course importance and impact, like beauty, are in the "eye of the beholder."

According to the magic of the marketplace (and Google Analytics), the customer is always right, but whatever top 10 or 20 NNV readers came up with should make for some great conversation, as these lists invariably do...

P.S. And despite what the box office says, the best – and certainly not the most important – movie of the year is not ‘Avatar.’
