Village Board Special Meeting Tomorrow

The Village Board is meeting tomorrow for a special meeting tomorrow evening at 7pm in Village Hall.  The Board must meet immediately to avoid missing an opportunity to take advantage of federal dollars and lucky timing with some heavy equipment.

The Village will be able to clear the channel of storm debris and to clear the destroyed barge from the Marina for a greatly reduced fee utilizing the heavy equipment already in place at the Clermont property. As some of the damage is directly related to the Spring storm, Steve Knowlton and Jim Politi have met with Federal and state officials and have determined that part of the already dramatically reduced costs associated with the cleanup will be defrayed by federal disaster funds.

Generally, yes, we post any public meetings in the newspaper of record, the Journal News. But this was an “emergency” meeting, due to the fact that a decision has to be made immediately if we want to take advantage of FEMA money.

It is a very specific issue about removing debris from the marina, that’s all.

We did post it at Village Hall, but obviously that also is not going to alert the majority of residents. We posted as best we could.

Are notices of special meetings also required to be posted anywhere, such as the local newspaper? Just curious? This site is a great source, but there are still many folks out there who never touch a computer (but do read that paper every morning).

Yes, Bob Cummings did present the opportunity to the Board at the last meeting, for which we are very thankful.

This is a classic win-win situation where Clermont residents, and the entire Village, get an eyesore cleaned up and a much reduced price.

    Thanks.

  4. Folks from the Clermont thought that since Clermont had this heavy equipment on site, it might benefit the Village to use it while it is already here. Clermont folks made a trip to the last Village Board meeting to make this suggestion to the Village of Nyack.
