Nyack Weekender: Festival Time

Get outside while you can and check out the many festivals Rockland has to offer this weekend. Don’t miss the Nyack Street Fair, the Smoke and Fire Food Fest, the Green Meadow Waldorf Fall Fair, Pearl River Day, Oktoberfest and more!

Friday

  • The Corner Frame Shop holds an opening reception for photographer Matthew Smith. Exhibit runs through Oct 31. 6-8p at The Corner Frame Shop, 40 S Franklin St, Nyack.
  • Check out Broadway Bound by Neil Simon, an emotionally charged comedy setup with plenty of nostalgic punch. Fri & Sat at 8p, Sun at 2p, at Elmwood Playhouse, 10 Park St, Nyack.
  • From the author of last season’s hit Playing the Assassin comes his newest play, Priceless, about an art caper gone awry. Fri & Sat at 8p, Sun at 2p, Penguin Repertory Theater 7 Crickettown Rd, Stony Point.
  • 3 actors reading their 3 new plays: The Gift of Maggie’s by Bette Siler, Like a Sack of Potatoes by Ric Siler, and Careful What You Wish For by Judy Stadt. Fri & Sat at 8p, Shades Repertory Theater Company, 64 New Main St, Haverstraw.
  • The classic farce comedy, Boeing Boeing, is on stage at Antrim Playhouse. Fri & Sat at 8p, Sun at 2p, 15 Spook Rock Road, Suffern.

Saturdaysmoke

  • The annual Smoke and Fire Food Fest heats things up with smoked and fiery food from the Hudson Valley featuring family entertainment, live music, craft beer and more. 11a-6p at Provident Bank Park, 1 Provident Bank Park Dr, Pomona.
  • The Green Meadow Waldorf School Fall Fair features organic food, live music, pumpkin carving, hayrides and more! 10a-5p at Green Meadow Waldorf School, at the corner of Hungry Hollow Rd and Route 45, Chestnut Ridge, NY.
  • Bring the whole family to Pearl River Day with shopping and food vendors, two stages of entertainment, informational booths and children’s activities including bounce houses and pumpkin painting. 11a-6p at Central Avenue Field, Central Ave, Pearl River.
  • Everyone’s invited to Bear Mountain for the 2015 Oktoberfest where families can partake in German food and beer, entertainment, craft vendors and much more. Oktoberfest takes place every weekend through October. 12-6p, Anthony Wayne Recreation Area, Palisades Interstate Parkway, Bear Mountain.

  • Nyack’s Famous Street Fair, sponsored by the Arts, Crafts and Antiques Dealers Association (ACADA), brings vendors offering fine crafts, jewelry and art. Don’t miss the live music, food and kids’ entertainment. 10a-5p, downtown Nyack.
  • Elmwood Playhouse presents High 5 Vocal Works. High Five will be accompanied by the Will Rich Trio. 7p at Elmwood Playhouse, 10 Park St.
  • The Brick Alley Block Party captures the Brooklyn renaissance. Participants walk through alleys and galleries viewing art exhibitions and enjoy live music by Lynx. 5:30p at Garner Arts Center, 55 West Railroad Ave, Garnerville.
  • The Historical Society of the Nyacks’ Fall exhibition features the photographs of the construction of Tappan Zee Bridge Experience Graphicthe original Tappan Zee Bridge taken between 1952 – 1955 by Leonard Cooke of Nyack. Exhibit runs every Sunday through Nov 29. 1p at 50 Piermont Ave, Nyack.
  • Sparkill Salon Concerts presents Forbidden Love with Vassily Primakov. Robert Schumann’s secret love for his piano teacher’s daughter, Clara, shown through the beautiful music he composed for her. 3p at Union Arts Center, 2 Union St, Sparkill.
  • Sunday Symposia: Sean Scully in Conversation with Ken Carbone. Learn from Sean Scully, a Palisades resident and one of the world’s leading abstract painters. 4:30p at the IBM Palisades Executive Conference Center, 334 Route 9W, Palisades.
  • Commemorating the true delights that autumn brings to us, acclaimed international concert violinist David Podles presents an Autumn Leaves Concert – works by composers who pay tribute to all that is autumn. 2p at Finkelstein Memorial Library 24 Chestnut St, Spring Valley.
