Nyack, August 26 — Senator Kirsten Gillibrand visited the Nyack Farmer’s Market today on a campaign swing through Westchester, Rockland and Orange counties.

Gillibrand spoke with local officials including NYS Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffe and Nyack Trustees Jen White and Doug Foster as well as residents and local farmers represented at the market, answering questions about local and national issues.

Regarding obtaining federal funding for a replacement Tappan Zee Bridge, Gillibrand gave her unqualified support. “We’re going to fight for it,” she said. “The Tappan Zee bridge is an important thoroughfare for the region.” She also voiced support for the commuter rapid transit (CRT) and Bus Rapid Transit parts of the plan which will increase mass transit options for NYC passengers and 287 corridor commuters.

Clearwater’s Tideline Discovery Program

August 21, 2010

The Nyack Park Conservancy and Clearwater are celebrating the Hudson River Estuary with a free program for kids ages 5 to 11 years of age.

The program, which will run from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 26th in Nyack’s Memorial park, was developed to provide children with a better understanding of the Hudson River and help foster a sense of environmental stewardship through a variety of fun, hands-on activities.

Teen Art Exhibition Kicks Off

The Edward Hopper House Express Yourself! Workshop for the YMCA Summer Teen Club had its opening reception on Friday at P.Ross on Main Street.  The reception debuted the artwork of ten teenaged artists and kicked off a weeklong exhibition.

Each child had painted, with the help of a mentor, a self-portrait. The results were staggering in their beauty and poignancy. They ranged from one inspired by Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland to a depiction of a detective story another artist wanted to write.

Last Mostly Music Concert Tonight

Nyack, Tues. Aug 17 — The UpSouth Twisters perform tonight at 7:30p in Memorial Park in the last Mostly Music concert of the Summer.

Sponsored by the Friends of The Nyacks, concerts are free to all and take place in Nyack’s Memorial Park each Tuesday night from through August 17. It’s a great night for packing up a picnic dinner, grabbing the family, a few lawn chairs, a blanket and heading down to Memorial Park to enjoy a summer evening with friends and neighbors.

This weekend, see a part of New Jersey far away from Snooki and the Jersey Shore. On a bike.

Join a thousand area riders at the Ramapo Rally on Sunday August 15. The annual BTCNJ (Bicycle Touring Club of North Jersey) event introduces many cyclists to areas of New Jersey they have never seen before. Tree shaded country roads, gated estates, lakes and farmland, including an alpaca and llama farm, unfold before the riders. The Rally starts at Campgaw Ski Area, Mahwah, NJ.

The realists and surrealists arrive in Nyack
