Today is Super Bowl XLVI, the one day each year when football fans wish they had paid better attention when Roman Numerals where taught in elementary school. Today's event is the culmination of the games and festivities that have been in full swing for weeks. Las Vegas oddsmakers are notorious for game-related bets including who will win the opening coin toss (1-2 odds favoring the Giants) and whether Kelly Clarkson’s bare midriff will be exposed when she sings the national anthem (1-3 odds). However, there is one bet that I have yet to hear: how long will it take for the Giants-Patriots Super Bowl matchups to be adapted into a major motion picture? It's not a question of "if," but "when."

Looking ahead, blogger Cap'n Transit offers 100 Years of the Tappan Zee Bridge -- a food-for-thought view of where today's transportation decisions might be taking us.

The plans to fast track a new Tappan Zee Bridge don't include any of the previously promised trains or buses to ease congestion. But they do include shoulders and a dedicated lane for emergencies -- be they political or otherwise.

Well, it’s late fall and here in the Northeast that means everything is a complete mess. Isn’t it a bit disrespectful the way the trees just let their leaves fall to the ground for others to pick up? I, for one, was taught to not drop my clothes all over the floor. (Instead: I pile them on a chair, bundle them onto shelf in the closet, or throw them in the backseat of my car, vowing to eventually take them to the dry cleaners.)

I have a picture I took 30 years ago of a white clapboard house partially obscured by brilliant, blazing leaves of autumn. The photo, which I framed and hung up in my Upper West Side apartment, represented something beatific, something out of reach. I could only imagine what it would be like to live in a house like that.

Do you refuse to believe there will ever be a new Tappan Zee Bridge until you actually see it? While we wait to hear if the wait to cross the bridge will ever get shorter (it won't), here are some ways to make that turtle-paced crawl more endurable. Thes simple activities you may even begin to look forward to your stay on the TZB.

While you are waiting, you also might consider calling your Congressman, too.

Great news! We now have only 29 years left on our 30 year mortgage! We have been in our house for one year, which means that we have paid exactly .0000000000000000000000042 percent of the principle on our loan. Please hold your applause.

We stopped because the traffic wasn't even at a crawl. It was a parking lot and we were starving and the exit was right there so I said, just get off here because at least I know where to go. I think. I think I still remember, because how long ago was 1989? But secretly it was because I wanted to go back, to see Nyack again because I never wanted to leave in the first place and I've been mad at my parents for dragging me to Florida since I was fifteen.
