Agreed. At least these were all Nyack school district children. Hopefully, now the correct taxing jurisdiction (Clarkstown for Central and Upper Nyack residents, and South Nyack) will contribute towards the summer program when there residents attend. Its not fair that all the costs be assumed by Nyack Village alone.

As much as in no village resident wants to see our money mis-spent, not only does it seem like the situation is well on its way to being remedied, but it seem relevant to keep in mind that the end result of this error was to help young people and their families access programs that enriched their lives. Despite the problems it points out, the end result is pretty positive. We can hope now that the error has been brought everyone's attention, the other villages and towns involved will insure their residents continue to have access to these programs.

This article states that Anthony "Mele’s Tea Party group, Rally for America, had previously indicated that they would like to put up their own slate on the GOP line." Speaking as a core member of Rally for America, I would like to set the record straight. Rally for America never was, and is not now Anthony "Mele's Tea Party group". Also note that another core member posted the following to our Facebook page from our group's original description.

"As with all true Tea Party groups, Rally for America is a leaderless, grassroots, bottom up entity. It does not stand for, represent, or belong to ANY politician or candidate, as that would defeat the group's mission. Rally for America also is not exclusive to any one political party. While the group does endorse slates of candidates for every yearly election, it does so based on its analysis and consideration of the character, platform, and past record of every candidate running. Party affiliation is NOT a considering factor. RFA has endorsed candidates across all party lines in the past, and the group will continue to do so. It is the PERSON and the POLICY that
matter; NOT the party."

This is a fair article. BOTH parties have been using this terrible practice for many years and in all states. Just one more reason to create a powerful independent party.

Having lived so close to the church, I have found that many of the congregation are friendly and it is a pleasure to walk by and say 'hello'.

Elijah, you sure do know how to "crack" the evil logic of Gerrymandering and "pack" in a lot of insight into the political shenanigans of the powerful to hold onto their power by making sure that the popular vote doesn't actually mean as much as it should. Thank you for this fine bit of analysis and I can't wait to see the next installment... Andy

The history of this sounds interesting. How on earth did the GOP get away with this rigging for so many years. The Dems in NY are not exactly shrinking violets so how is it that they let this happen???

Thanks for your example, John, but inextricable links have a funny way of extricating themselves. I myself used to cross the river for high school (on a different bridge), and if the bridge went away I would have taken another bridge or found a different school. My place at my school would probably have been taken by someone from the east side of the river, possibly someone who had been commuting the other way. So I think I do understand.

Forget about "political reality" for a minute. (I love how people use "political reality" to avoid really thinking about things that make them uncomfortable!) Of all the ways for kids to get to school, isn't this hugely expensive bridge (and its hugely expensive replacement, and the gas that people burn to cross it, and the pollution that creates, and the people who get killed by the cars) one of the most inefficient you can imagine?

The political reality is us. We can stay in the "political reality" box we've stuffed ourselves into, or we can take a good long honest look at the costs we pay as taxpayers and neighbors (even me living in Queens now) to make it easy for kids from Westchester to go to school in Rockland and vice versa, compare that with the costs and benefits of alternatives, and make a choice about our future. Which do you think is the better way to plan?
