What if you had a freeze frame on history and could go back and experience things as they once were? Although you can’t freeze history, on Jan 29-30 you are invited to freeze yourself — just a little — and experience some surprising Lower Hudson Valley history at the 6th annual Knickerbocker Ice Festival at Rockland Lake State Park.
The two day festival celebrates Rockland Lake’s history as the epicenter of the ice industry during the 19th century.
In addition to the professional ice carving competitions and demonstrations, portions of the three-mile paved path around Rockland Lake will showcase multiple attractions, intended to emphasize the festival’s themes of community, and sustainability. It all happens Sat, Jan 28 from 11a – dark and Sun Jan 29 from 11a-4p. Admission is free; parking is $8.
The festival features many activities for everyone to enjoy, including:
- Glacier Golf (courtesy Paramount Country Club)
- Knick’s Canteen: Food and Drink to warm the spirit
- KIDZ Ice Park: Igloo building, and more
- Historic Ice Gallery: images from the archives frozen into blocks of ice
- Dancing and entertainment
- History walking tour
- Bonfire, campfires and warming stations.
- Local artists from Artists in the Parks will capture the beauty of the park on Saturday with their work for sale on Sunday
