If you haven’t seen this show before (presented over the last nine years as public meetings), the new production might bring you to tears or cheers depending on how close your seats are to the construction site.

It’s been a big point of contention between the people in the Lower Hudson Valley and the Governor of New York: Andrew Cuomo’s controversial decision to remove mass transit as a component of the new Tappan Zee Bridge. However, with last week’s announcement that an existing bus service will get its own dedicated rush hour lane, it would seem that this disagreement is done. Everyone’s a winner — the governor gets public support for his project, the people get priority mass transit and everyone joins hands and sings songs of Kumbaya as they board the speedy mass transit option on the first day of the TZB II service.
You probably won’t be surprised to learn that it isn’t that simple and that everyone isn’t so happy.

If ‘€œgovernment is of the people, by the people, for the people,’€ or at least if there is the slightest pretense of that, then the ‘€œpeople’€ get to communicate with officialdom, right? But what happens if Big Brother does not answer?
Since I authored about 100 editorials and a number of columns on the various Tappan Zee Bridge replacement proposals during my years as editorialist for The Journal-News, I wrote the governor. I thought I could get his ear and help in the dialogue. But, not even a form letter reply to both email and old-fashioned U.S. Postal Service delivery.

Without Fed Funding, Tappan Zee Tolls Could Be $16

Nyack, Jan 27 ‘€” The NYS Department of Transportation released the Tappan Zee Bridge Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) this week and found no reason to change Governor Cuomo’s aggressive plan to start construction in 4Q 12.
Statements by a leading Hudson River environmental group and a Rockland County Assemblywoman this week offered opposing points of view on building a new Tappan Zee Bridge. Riverkeeper “expresses extreme concern” about the project, saying the revised plan doesn’t address traffic congestion and pollution and has the potential to cause needless destruction to the Hudson River. Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee (Suffern ‘€“ D) says “the governor’s expedited plan will bring us jobs, build a safer bridge that preserves mass transit options, and do it all with construction starting in one year.”
Nyack, Oct 26 — New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has endorsed Jen White in her bid to become Mayor of Nyack, New York.
NY Attorney General and gubernatorial candidate Andrew Cuomo will make a campaign appearance at Rockland County on Thursday July 15 at 12:30p. Cuomo will speak about government accountability, bringing more jobs to the state and his plan for New York’s economic recovery.
