Governor Names Local Officials To Mass Transit Committee

Over a year after New York State announced a new Tappan Zee Bridge project, yesterday the New York State Thruway Authority released basic sketches and cost estimates for the three Tappan Zee Bridge replacement proposals being considered. The three bid proposals were priced at $3.14 billion, $3.99 billion and $4.06 billion, significantly lower than the state’s projections of $5.2 billion. The proposal estimates excluded $600-$800 million in additional costs. The lowest bid, submitted by Tappan Zee Constructors, won the state advisory committee’s recommendation.

Tappan Zee II: What We Need vs. What We’ll Get

Despite the Federal Highway Administration’s approval last week of Governor Cuomo’s Tappan Zee Bridge plan, there are still many issues that have yet to addressed. Lower Hudson Valley residents want to know more about how the bridge will be financed, what the new toll will be and if we will ever get the mass transit and road improvements we were originally promised.

TZB: Gentlemen, Start Your Pile Drivers!

After the Federal Highway Administration gave a green light to Governor Andrew Cuomo’s plan to build a new Tappan Zee Bridge yesterday, there are only a few small items left on the governor’s “TZB To Do” list: pick a contractor, avoid a lawsuit, schedule a ground breaking. And figure out how to pay for all of this, too.

The Plan for Lanes, Trains and Automobiles

If you’ve ever sat in Tappan Zee Bridge traffic, complained that building a new bridge without mass transit was shortsighted, think that there are too many cars, too many bikes or too many complaints, there’s a Website for you and a meeting at the mall to attend today from 4-8p. If you can’t make it there, no worries: you are one click away from having a say on the region’s mass transit plans 25 years into the future.

The New York Metropolitan Transportation Council’s (NYMTC) is developing a long range plan for bike and bus lanes, commuter trains and cars and trucks through the year 2040. And they want your ideas. Its your chance to click into a better transportation future.

Drive To The Mall, Ride To The Future on Sept 13

Last month they approved a plan to build a new Tappan Zee Bridge. This month they want to hear from you about how billions of federal dollars will be spent over the next 30 years on the region’s transportation system.

The New York Metropolitan Transportation Council (NYMTC) is holding an open house at the Palisades Center Mall on Thurs Sept 13 from 4-8p to hear from the public about what transportation projects and programs they’d like to see put in place between 2015 and 2040.

Next TZB Step: ‘Show Me The Money’

Nyack, August 17 –If fictional super agent Jerry Maguire were to star in the Tappan Zee Bridge story, we would now be up to the scene where Cuba Gooding, Jr bursts into the room and shouts, “show me the money!”

Now that three county executives who could have blocked the project have given it a green light, paying for the new twin span bridge is the last remaining big question.

Cuomo OK’s Bus Transit For New TZB (Sort of)

It’s been a big point of contention between the people in the Lower Hudson Valley and the Governor of New York: Andrew Cuomo’s controversial decision to remove mass transit as a component of the new Tappan Zee Bridge. However, with last week’s announcement that an existing bus service will get its own dedicated rush hour lane, it would seem that this disagreement is done. Everyone’s a winner — the governor gets public support for his project, the people get priority mass transit and everyone joins hands and sings songs of Kumbaya as they board the speedy mass transit option on the first day of the TZB II service.

You probably won’t be surprised to learn that it isn’t that simple and that everyone isn’t so happy.

Two Nyacks With Issues Re: Tappan Zee DEIS

Nyack, March 31 — Two Nyack River Villages wrote to the Tappan Zee Bridge project director last week with concerns about higher tolls, lost tax revenue, missing mass transit and improperly vetted environmental impacts. “The Village of Nyack asserts that the [TZB draft environmental statement] as written is flawed, incomplete, inadequate and insufficient under the law,” wrote Nyack Mayor Jen White in a letter to Michael Anderson, the director of New York State’s Hudson River Crossing Project.
