Nyack Sketch Log: Year Round Farmers’ Market

Each Thursday morning at 6 am, over a dozen vendors arrive in the municipal parking lot in Nyack. Two hours later, a tent village has risen from the asphalt. Crates of locally grown produce and boxes of fresh baked goods are presented for sale on folding tables. Since May 10th, I have recorded this vibrant expression of the commercial life of our village each week as the first artist-in-residence for Nyack’s Farmers’ Market.

Nyack Sketch Log: Amazing Grace Circus

New York City may have a Big Apple, but Nyack has Amazing Grace. You might have seen the Amazing Grace Circus perform at a school, church, synagogue or mosque. Or when they marched behind an elephant to a massive tent pitched in Memorial Park, or every year at the Halloween Parade. In my sketch, the pint-sized performers are mesmerizing motorists during an impromptu parade on the way back from the Farmer’s Market. And on October 6, this talented troupe of teens will teach a hippo how to fly.
Nyack Circus Story On Silver Screen Tonight
Nyack, Feb 15 — Tonight’s premiere of Runaway Circus at the Nyack Center is not too different from the real life story of the director of the Amazing Grace CIRCUS! “I ran away from college in 1972 to join the circus because it was a lifetime dream,” said Carlo Pellegrini, Director and co-founder of the Nyack youth circus program. “With all of the hardships and all of the wonderful moments, it was the perfect year.’€ Tonight you can take a peek under the Big Top that Pellegrini brought to Nyack in 2009 and see the hardships and wonderful moments of a new generation of circus arts performers in Runaway Circus, a short documentary by filmmaker Angela Snow.
