Nyack Nov 1 — On Wed night a 6p-5a curfew was instituted to discourage Trick Or Treating as most Nyack streets were dark and without power after the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy. And because of limited police resources, Nyack will be “dry” until further notice. The Village Board banned the sale of alcoholic beverages in Nyack, saying they needed officers to patrol the village instead of policing late night activity at bars and restaurants until all power was restored.

This year Halloween in Nyack will be more than just Trick and Treat. There will be roller derby, 15 foot puppets and great marching bands on Sat afternoon Oct 22 for the village’s 24th annual Halloween Parade beginning at 5:30p.
Nyack’s annual Halloween Parade is the largest event of its kind outside of New York City. Building on a history of record-breaking crowds, over 20,000 spectators are expected to line the streets of Main and Broadway in Nyack.

There are three things which Nyack has in abundance: artists, bikers and dogs. But on Street Fair Sundays two out of three aren’t welcome.
“To the vendors and businesses at the Nyack Street Fair, we would have spent more of our money with you, but a police officer told us we had to leave with our two Greyhounds. There were no dogs allowed at the Festival held on a PUBLIC STREET!” writes commenter GreyhoundMom.

Ten years ago, Mike Panzarella was a managing partner at Boston Market. Because of a personal tragedy, he wanted to find a way to spend more time with his teenage children. Leaving the corporate world, Mike began selling mozzarella and bread with the kids at local farmer’s markets.
Today, Nyack is one of the 17 Farmer’s Markets Panzarella’s serves each week, as well as retail outlets, restaurants and consumers directly by home delivery.
The Chamber of Commerce of the Nyacks is accepting nominations for up to eight new positions on its Board of Directors through December 9. Members can cast their ballots at the annual meeting on December 15 (note the new date).
Nyack’s businesses, which feel the village has neglected their pleas for more parking, better signage and an improved streetscape, heard a pitch last week about how they can control their own destiny and improve downtown Nyack.
