Postcard from NY: Iconic Images
by Alison Perry
For artists who have a passion for urban and suburban spaces and places and things in the American landscape, iconic imagery becomes part of the pursuit. Icons as cultural identifiers embody conventional formulas or standards and in turn represent society at large. Form and analogy DO matter in photography as well as being ready at the decisive moment when atmospheric conditions are right. In the case of one special place in Nyack, I am fortunate to be able to walk down the street to a local photographic icon of which I’ve grown very fond.
