Nyack, Nov 20 — On November 3, Nyack’s Village Board voted to withdraw an application for an $11.8 million economic development grant because one of its members failed to get buy-in from his fellow trustees. But a second action, by another member of the board may prove to be more serious: it ignored the advice of Nyack’s legal counsel and may have also violated New York’s law governing the behavior of elected officials.
Nyack, Nov 7 — The long road to Election Day ends tomorrow for local candidates in Nyack, Orangetown, Clarkstown and Rockland County.
In Nyack, there’s a mayor’s race and two uncontested trustee contests. Orangetown and Clarkstown elect a Town Supervisor and Town Council members. All 17 seats in the Rockland County legislature are up for grabs as well as county wide races for Sheriff and Family Court Judge.
NyackNewsAndViews offered more than twenty candidates on the ballot in Nyack the opportunity to submit a “closing statement” for voters before the Tuesday Nov 8 General Election.

Nyack, August 22 — As we approach the September Democratic Primary, we’ll hear from the two mayoral and two Village Board candidates on one topic each week. Mayor Richard Kavesh is running for re-election against Trustee Jen White. Incumbent Trustee Doug Foster and former Trustee Marie Lorenzini are running for two open seats on the Village Board.
Question: Given reduced revenue for the village as a result of the recession and the NYS two percent tax cap, should the Village of Nyack explore some form of consolidation with adjacent municipalities to reduce expenses?
Nyack Mayor Richard Kavesh has reserved the “Nyack First” party line for the November election with the Rockland County Board of Elections. That’s also the name of multi-candidate committee registered with the NY State Board of Elections which mayoral challenger Jen Laird-White and running mate and Village Trustee Doug Foster have been using since 2009.
The public is invited to the inauguration of Nyack’s new mayor and trustees on New Year’s Eve afternoon at 1:30p at Village Hall.
